The Higuchi Memorial Lecture Series, sponsored by the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and the Higuchi family, honors the legacy of Professor Takeru Higuchi, regarded as the “Father of Physical Chemistry.” Higuchi’s pioneering work applied the principles of chemistry and physics to pharmaceutical systems, transforming the way that medicine is formulated and delivered.

Each Higuchi lecturer is selected for their scientific distinction and their embodiment of Higuchi’s intellectual drive, sensitivity to human health and willingness to push emerging fields forward.

Sinclair will give a public lecture at 2:45 p.m. June 2 at the KU School of Pharmacy in Room 2020. The public can also watch the event via Zoom, passcode 189175.

Sinclair, professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School and co-director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biology of Aging Research, is best known for his work in reshaping how scientists think about aging. Rather than viewing aging as an inevitable decline in human ability, his research reframes it as a biological process to be understood, measured and potentially modified.

His work in epigenetics (the study of how behaviors, environment and experiences change the way genes work) examines how gene expression changes over time without altering the DNA sequence and how cellular information is lost as organisms age.
