Kitchen Sink

Description

The Kitchen Sink content type is a starting point for building pages from scratch as opposed to using a Cloneable Template (e.g., Marketing, Start).

Unlike the Landing Page and Content Page content types, which have a limited number of sections available based on their intended use, the Kitchen Sink content type includes all the sections available in KU CMS Sunflower.

Because Kitchen Sink offers the most flexibility and least restrictions, it also requires advanced knowledge to use it properly. By design, the sections available on the Landing Page and Content Page content types are limited. These limitations are there to help CMS site administrators efficiently create pages that are appropriate for their intended purpose.

Principles: Landing Page

  • The sections available on Landing Page are intended for use on pages that begin a user’s journey like homepages.
  • The sections available in the Landing Page content type are intentionally more expressive and dynamic than some of the sections designed for use on informational content pages.
  • Using many of the sections available in the Landing Page content type in sequence will result in long pages that require scrolling.
  • Longer pages with a wider range of sections is appropriate for landing pages, but not for interior content pages.

Principles: Content Page

  • By contrast, the sections available in Content Page are designed to help you create streamlined and simplified interior pages.
  • The purpose of interior pages is significantly different than that of a landing page.
  • Interior content pages should be strategically designed to present information as clearly and concisely as possible – making it easy for users to scan and locate the information they are looking for.

Proper Use of Kitchen Sink

If you elect to use Kitchen Sink because of the flexibility it offers, remember to implement the strategic principles reflected in the limitations that are built-in to the Landing Page and Content Page content types.

  1. Select Content
  2. Select Add Content
  3. Select Kitchen Sink
  4. Add Sections
  5. Save

  • Just because you have access to all the available sections does not mean you should use them.
  • Make strategic choices about what sections to use based on the purpose of the page and the purpose of the section.
  • If you elect to use Kitchen Sink because of the flexibility it offers, remember to implement the strategic principles reflected in the limitations that are built-in to the Landing Page and Content Page content types.
